After nine weeks on top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, Carly Rae Jepsen‘s hit single “Call Me Maybe” has finally been dethroned by Flo Rida‘s “Whistle Baby.” Yet, one would think Jepsen is just fine with that impressive run, since she now has her sights set on upcoming debut album Kiss, which hits stores September 18.
Last week, Jepsen’s mentor and friend, Justin Bieber, who signed the singer to his Schoolboy Records, tweeted that he has given Kiss his seal of approval.
“He digs it,” Jepsen said. “I was stoked, him and Scooter [Braun]. Scooter called me … and he’s like ‘It’s fantastic, you should be pumped,’ and it’s not often that I say that I am, but I am pumped. I mean I hope people like it, but it’s fun to know that my friends and family and people around me are digging it and hopefully everyone else likes it too.”
Jepsen, of course, is equally as excited for the world to listen Kiss.
The VMA Best New Artist nominee, is confident that her fans will relate to the songs on her album, which she has been working on for many years.
“I’ve written on almost every song and these are lyric ideas that I’ve been collecting since I was like 17, so it’s really fun to get to see them put to life.” Jepsen said. “It’s cool to be able to say with confidence that this is an album that I feel like I’ve been waiting to make and I’m ready to finally have out there.”
“I’ve been really lucky. At the beginning of this process the label sat me down and they honestly said, ‘Pick your dream producers, collaborations, write us a list and we’ll see what we can do.’ And I was like, ‘What’s the catch? Really? Is that how that works?’ So I did,” Jepsen said. “I did my research I really made a long list, a detailed list of everything that would be suited for the album I wanted to make, and they came through on a lot.”
As of right now, Jepsen is unsure of what single with follow “Good Time,” but she is hoping she’s not that one that has to make that call.
“We have a few contenders, but we can’t decide,” Jepsen said. “I’m really bad at picking those; I’m leaving that to the label. ‘Whatever you think, I like them all!’ It’s like picking your favorite child.”
